Moving Time Saver Tip, Next Step Transitions

Another good idea to keep things better organized during your move is to label your bookcases. This is especially important if you have multiple bookshelves that look the same. Label them in alphabetical or numerical sequence and label them for the room you want them to move to. Also label the shelves with which bookcase they came from and assign a shelf number. Example: Bookcase 1, Shelf 1. This gets the right shelves back to the right shelf unit. Even though the bookcases may look the same, quite often the shelves can be slightly different making them difficult to reinstall or the color does not match. It only takes a minute to label each shelf with the Bookcase ID and Shelf number. If you want the contents of the bookcases to go back into the same bookcase, simply record on the box the Unit and Shelf number that they go to. This gets things back where they belong.

Always remove the shelves and shelf tabs from your bookcases before moving. If you don’t, the shelves fall out or get damaged while moving and the shelf pegs usually get lost. Use blue tape to label where the shelf tabs were so that the shelves go back in the same place. Place all shelf tabs in a ziplock bag and either tape inside the bookcase or carry in a “Parts Box” that contains all your various hardware parts and pieces. And don’t forget to remove glass shelves from China cabinets, display cases and shelving units. Cabinets should not be moved with glass shelves inside. Take them out and wrap and protect them separately. And remember to take the opportunity to clean shelving and glass when getting ready to move. Now is the time for some move cleaning to take place so things are ready to receive your belongings when you start to unpack.

Happy Moving!

"If you want professional to execute a move in a highly competent fashion, at a reasonable price, and with minimal involvement on your part then Christy is your go-to person. Christy coordinated my mother’s move from an assisted living facility in Maryland to one in Bellevue WA—including finding folks to do all the packing and to transport the items across country, shopping around for the best price and acceptable delivery times, adapting to ambiguities and changes to plan along the way, and providing gentle reminders (when I needed to do something) and status updates along the way. I’m am very grateful to Christy for her help and recommend her without hesitation."
